iPhone disconnect issues with Netgear routers

I’ve been having a problem for the last 2 or 3 months where every now and again every computer/device on my wireless network got disconnected.

I was using a Netgear DG834G that I’d had for well over 3 years, I decided that it might be the router causing the problem and decided to upgrade, having no issues with the DG834G I went for the DG834N, set it all up with my ISP all working fine.

Later that day I again noticed that all the wireless connected computers had been disconnected and the only way to re-connect was to reboot the router and then the computers, even my iPhone couldn’t connect.

After weeks of moving the router about, resetting and tweaking, I noticed that the computers mainly dropped when I was away from them, putting 2 and 2 together I realised that if I was using the computers I was probably using the iPhone.

After much testing, I can now get this problem to arrise anytime, all I have to do is use the wireless connection on the iPhone to surf the net for around 5 minutes, so I then started to search for anyone else having the same issues and came across the link below to a Netgear forum with exactly the same issue:-

Post iPhone Disconnect Issues HERE! – NETGEAR Forums.

The mod on the site says he has noticed more and more people posting about this issue and has made this thread sticky, he has also posted a suggested fix by changing RIP Direction to both, this didn’t work for me so I called Netgear Tech Support.

After an hour on the phone to Netgear Tech Support the guy on the other end said that the router is working fine, If you just use the computers it’s fine so the problem must be the iPhone sending information to the router causing it to crash and then told me to speak to Apple.

I’m now at the stage where if I call Apple they will say it’s a problem with the Netgear and vice versa, apart from leaving the wifi switched off on the iPhone when I’m at home I don’t know what to do.

Any suggestions?
