Are Orange really this bad????

I have recently rebuilt a PC for a couple who live near me, they have an Orange Broadband account (That they pay £14.99 per month and only get a starter package, USB Modem and 2Mb), after rebuilding the computer I needed the drivers for the Orange supplied USB Modem (A Speedtouch 330), so I decided to look on the Orange web site, no luck…….. After Googling the question I did manage to find a link within the Orange site http://www.orange.co.uk/membercentre/downloads/ but it soon sent me to another site http://www.thomson.net/GlobalEnglish/broadband-uk/Pages/home-uk.aspx after clicking through and entering all my details the site came back with 0 results for drivers.

This then led me to contact Orange support, I decided as I was quite busy that filling in an online form with my question was enough, below is the message that was sent to Orange:-

Original Message Follows:

————————

Your question is about: Broadband

Description of query: null

Please enter your name: XXXXXX

Please enter the email address we should reply to:

xx@xxxxx.xx

Wanadoo / Orange username: xx@xxxxx.xx Contact telephone number: 01782xxxxxx

What Operating System are you using: winvista

Question or details of problem:

Hi,

I have rebuilt a customer PC and need to install the drivers for the Speedtouch 330 USB Modem on Windows Vista.

Can you please supply me a download link before I return the PC to my customer Mr and Mrs xxxxxxx who have the Orange BB account.

Kind Regards,

Now, from what you can see, it states that it is a Orange Broadband account on telephone number 01782 xxxxxx owned by Mr and Mrs xxxxxxx, this is the reply I got from them today, 4 days after I sent in the original email:-

Dear Sir / Madam,

Thank you for your email.

To set up a Dial-up connection using Windows vista, you will need a modem with drivers that are compatible with the operating system.

Please find below information that will help you to set up a working connection.

* Open the ‘Connections’ tab in ‘Internet Options’

* Open the Start menu, select Control Panel, (click Network and

Internet if in Category view) and select Internet Options.

* From Internet Explorer, click Tools, Internet Options, and select the

Connections tab.

* The Internet Options Connections tab will open.

* Remove any unwanted dial-up connections by highlighting the

connection, and selecting Remove.

* Click Add:

* Select Dial-up

If the dial-up option isnt present, this indicates that the computer doesnt have a modem correctly installed. The customer will need to contact the technical support team for the supplier of their modem for more help.

* Enter the information below:

* Dial-up phone number: eg 0844 0587000 for Pay As You Go, or 1470

08089916080 for Any Time

* User name: enter the customer’s username, eg

yourname.orangehome.co.uk

* Password – enter the customer’s dial-up password – selecting

the ‘Show characters’ option may help.

* Select ‘Remember this password’.

* Connection name: enter today’s date, followed by Orange Dial Up:

This will ensure you set up a new connection with new settings, and not risk transferring old incorrect settings from a previous dial-up connection of the same name.

* Click Connect:

* The modem will attempt to connect to Dial-Up Pay As You Go:

* If the modem connects, then congratulations.

* If the connection fails, select to Set up the connection anyway’

* Youll be prompted that the connection to the Internet is ready to

use select Close:

* Close Internet Options.

* Until Internet Options is closed, and re-opened, the new dial-up

connection won’t be visible.

Now update dial-up settings:

* Re-open the ‘Connections’ tab in Internet Options.

* Click to select the new Orange Dial-up connection.

* Select Always dial my default connection.

* Click Set default (if required):

* Click Settings:

* Ensure there isnt any ticks in any boxes.

* Click Properties:

* Ensure theres a dial-up modem selected:

* Click the Options tab:

* Check there’s a tick in Display progress while connecting’, ‘Prompt

for name and password’ and ‘Prompt for phone number’.

* Click PPP Settings.

* Remove all checks from all boxes and click OK.

* Click OK, then OK, then OK again.

* Close any browser windows (i.e. Internet Explorer or Firefox) that

may be open.

Connect to the Internet:

* Open a new browser window.

* If prompted that you’re working offline, click Connect, or select

Tools, remove the tick from Work Offline and click Refresh.

* A ‘Dial-up Connection’ prompt will load.

* Click Connect:

* Click Dial:

* The modem will connect to the Internet, and the Orange home page will

load.

* Windows may prompt you to set a location for the new network – select

the most appropriate option i.e. Home.

If you have any further queries then please do not hesitate to get in contact with us again.

Kind Regards

Daniel

Is it me or have they answered a different question and sent the wrong reply to me??????? I have tried to email them back but the email address they reply on just gets bounced back.

Luckily I managed to find the drivers from another source and didn’t need Orange at all, but what a poor poor service.
